In Memoriam: Alex Jacobson
Webalo Founder, Board Member, Mentor, and Friend
We are deeply saddened by the passing of Alex Jacobson, whose vision, intellect, commitment and generosity helped shape Webalo from its very beginning.

Alex’s career spanned more than five decades of innovation in science and technology.

Before Webalo, he founded and led three pioneering software companies including a first-generation AI company, Inference Corporation, as well as two first-generation Internet companies, Limbex Corporation, and TriVida Corporation, each marking milestones in the commercialization of new, business critical, technologies.

Earlier in his career, at Hughes Aircraft Company, Alex was responsible for breakthrough developments in electro-optical devices, laser communications, and large-screen projection systems. His work earned him 27 patents, more than 35 scientific papers, and the prestigious Rank Prize for Innovation in 1985.

At Webalo, as in all his companies, Alex’s contribution went beyond the formal roles he held as a Founder, a Board Member, or Operational Executive. His unwavering belief in innovation and opportunity, as well as his intelligence, vigor, and empathy, were all qualities that guided those who worked with him through all the challenges, and the rewards, of building something truly new. His deep technical insight was matched by his rare personal kindness and generosity. His sense of fairness, and his awareness of privilege and inequality, left a deep mark on anyone he engaged with.

On behalf of everyone at Webalo, past and present, we extend our heartfelt sympathy to his wife Becky and to his family. We are deeply grateful for all that Alex gave to us, as a founder, a colleague, and above all, as a friend.
